Huizhou ancient rhyme · craftsmanship thousand years

Zhongshiqiao

Zhongshi Bridge stretches across Longchuan River, connecting Yishishang Bookshop and Du Xianfang. The bridge deck is paved with ten pieces of hemp and stone, and the homophonic sound is "perfect". In the Southern Song Dynasty, Hu Nian and Wu Gong built this bridge, hoping that their children and grandchildren would cultivate themselves and claim themselves with the whole of Germany. The bridge was thick and solid, and it was still an important road in the village after thousands of years.

Attraction Overview

This stone-beam bridge stands between two historic archways. It is 10.4 metres long, 2.3 metres wide and 0.4 metres thick. Each pier has two openings spanned by five massive granite beams. The bridge was built to strengthen the nearby archways against flood damage.

The five beams symbolise the five directions and the Five Roads of Wealth, as well as the many kinds of people entering the village. Hu Nianwu commissioned the bridge as a reminder to later generations to cultivate good character.
